From Story to Stage

Complete Calendar of Events

Kids ages 9-14 are invited to register for a unique workshop in July. The Illustrated Theatre residency From Story to Stage offers young writers the opportunity to discover their own voice, imagine unique characters, play with dialogue and create settings. After each participant writes and refines a short story, together one story will be chosen to transform into a play. Writers then shift their focus to acting, and utilizing improvisation and transformation theatre techniques, develop an original play. At the end of the residency the actors perform their unique production for a live audience.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1-2:30pm in the Conference Room on July 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31, with a performance on July 31.

Artistic Director Gale Farnsworth earned her MFA in Writing for Young Adults and Children at Hamline University. An Equity actress, Gale has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, at the Cleveland Playhouse, Wolf Trap Park, La Jolla Playhouse, Dublin Theatre Festival, in Shakespeare Festivals, commercials and film. Gale has taught theatre residencies and workshops in twelve states for colleges, schools, libraries and art centers. Currently, Gale is completing a young adult novel, Where I Stand Right Now. Please call the Children’s Desk at 582-2404 to register.
