Manage Your Library Account

You can manage your library account through the Library catalog. While logged in, you can place holds, renew items, and check due dates. Log in using all 14 digits--no spaces--of your library bar code number. Your PIN/password is set when registering for a library card. If you are unsure of your PIN, contact the library at (406)582-2408.

Email Notifications

Make sure the Library has a valid email address so you receive email notifications about holds, items due, and overdue items.

Text Notifications

Keep up-to-date with your library account activity on your mobile phone via text message. Please note that while the Library does not charge a fee to send messages, your mobile phone service plan standard text messaging rates apply. You can use your mobile phone to receive text notices about holds that are available, items that are due soon, overdue items, and renew items. 

Sign up for SMS text notifications:

  1. Visit the library's online catalog.
  2. Click My Account.
  3. Log in using your card number and password.
  4. From the Personal Information tab of your account, click the SMS (Text) Notifications section.
  5. Click Add SMS Notification.
  6. Enter a label, e.g. cell, your 10-digit phone number, then choose which notices you would like to receive via text.
  7. Click Save.

Library App

The Library's Mobile App through the Montana Shared Catalog makes it quick and easy to access your local library on the go!  To download the app, search "Montana Shared Catalog" in the Apple App Store or Google Play store. With the Library app, you can also save your library card barcode so that you can use your smartphone as your library card!

Checkout History

Your library account preferences can be set up to keep a record of your checkout history.  

To start recording your checkout history, log into your account through the library catalog select Personal Information and click on Preferences. Under Preferences, check both boxes next to “Record my checkout history” and “Show my checkout history” and then click Update. Your checkout history can now be viewed through your account online under Checkouts and select Checkout History

Your checkout history will begin from the day you turn on these settings. Checkout history will not be maintained permanently but for at least a 2 year period.

Borrowing Items

Loan Period

  • 14 days: New Books, "Most Wanted" Books, DVDs, Music CDs, Magazines, Children's Holiday Books
  • 14 days: Downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks
  • 28 days: Books, Books on CD, Playaways

There is no limit on the number of check out items, except for “Most Wanted” Books (2 at a time) and downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks (5 at a time). To check out items from the Library, you must have a Bozeman Public Library, or Gallatin County library card.

Automatic Renewals

The Library now has automatic renewals of items that are eligible for renewal, including: items that do not have holds, items that have not already been renewed twice, and non-Most Wanted items. When items are renewed automatically, patrons will receive an email saying that their items have been automatically renewed with the new due date(s). Any items that are borrowed from any Gallatin County library will be automatically renewed if eligible.

Returning Items

Library items may be returned in the book-drops located in the lobby and outside on the west side of the building.

Placing Holds

Holds can be placed through your library account online or through our Library App. Patrons are allowed 10 holds at a time. When your hold is available for pick up, you will be notified via email (or phone if no email is provided). If the items are in and on the shelf, please allow the Library at least 24 hours to fill your request. Items will be kept on the hold shelf for 8 days.

Fines

Bozeman Public Library is a fine free library as of January 2020. Please note that we do charge for replacement copies after items are overdue for 30 days. InterLibrary Loan items are not fine free.
